To reduce dependence on Groningen gas, the Netherlands is importing more gas from abroad. However, this gas has a different composition. In a nitrogen plant, nitrogen is extracted from the air and mixed with the high-calorific foreign gas. This gives it the same composition as Groningen gas. Expansion of capacity is necessary. Gasunie is therefore building a new nitrogen plant at Zuidbroek in Groningen alongside the existing nitrogen plant. Visser & Smit Bouw is responsible for the construction of six buildings with a surface area of 3,400 m2 and several foundations (https://www.visserensmitbouw.nl/nl/projecten/detail/constructie-stikstof-mengstation-zuidbroek -in Dutch- may 4 2021).
2. Byldis contribution to this project
Byldis is responsible for engineering and supplying the 3,100 m2 of precast sandwich elements. At five buildings, the elements will be fitted with cast-in stone strips and one building will have a clean-work concrete outer shell.
3. Why was Byldis chosen?
Because of the fast delivery time.
4. Challenges & solutions
The desired fast delivery time meant that the 3,100 m2 had to be produced in a short time frame of 13 weeks.
