UMEUS in Orested Copenhagen is a student accommodation that offers modern student housing at affordable prices. The building consists of no less than 337 dorms with accompanying communal facilities, alongside the IT university of Copenhagen. As well as the dorms, there is also a café on the ground floor, a launderette and a reading room with a communal living room.
2. Byldis contribution to this project
Byldis was able to produce and supply sandwich facade elements with brick for UMEUS. These were half bricks with concrete backing, which meant that the bricks were literally sawn through the middle and then concrete poured over them. We also supplied and installed internal walls, floors, precast bathrooms, balconies and waste shafts for the project.
3. Why was Byldis chosen?
Rasmus Friis chose our total concept with the integrated frames and glazing as it delivered a substantial reduction in the construction time, a huge benefit for the customer. There is a serious shortage of student housing in Copenhagen, so the sooner the accommodation was finished, the better.
"Scandinavia: a new region for Byldis."
4. Challenges & solutions
A new region The engineering for the UMEUS project was a challenge. Firstly, it required engineering for a project in a new and unfamiliar region. We actually joined forces with a local partner (CN3) on this project who worked on the building together with Byldis engineering.
