With the newest hospital in Delft, the Reinier de Graaf Gasthuis aims to be the most connected hospital in the Netherlands. A patient-friendly and compact hospital that exudes connectedness. EGM architects translated this wish into a design in which openness, connection and the city of Delft all play a significant role.
2. Byldis contribution to this project
Byldis contribution: A total of around 2200 assembled facade elements, completely fitted with glass, panels and sun blinds were supplied and assembled on the previously installed supports on site. Byldis Prefab supplied and assembled the entire concrete hull.
3. Why was Byldis chosen?
The commissioning body chose Byldis for the Reinier de Graaf Gasthuis project because we have the necessary experience in the supply and installation of (aluminium) facade elements for hospitals. It was possible to include as many activities as possible in the production phase, which safeguarded a higher level of quality. We were also able to install the elements at breakneck speed, so that the building was quickly wind and watertight.
"The Byldis total concept: our total concept in which engineering, production and assembly fit seamlessly together."
4. Challenges & solutions
'Verbundfenster' A 'verbundfenster' was developed especially for this project. This composite window was developed together with the firm Hueck, whereby an extruded tube was manufactured and mounted to the outside of the window. Construction cranes The project involved four different cranes working simultaneously on the construction site; three caterpillar cranes and one tower crane. These different cranes were needed to maintain the rapid construction tempo.
Electric blinds All elements were fitted with electric sun blinds that are accessible at all times via an extra openable section on the inside. The blinds fall in between the two panes. The system used is the Hueck Lamda 100 'verbundfenster' with electrically operated sun blinds using a home automation system.
